Laura Evancich exhibits photography

Photography by Laura EvancichA collection of local landscape photography by Northwest newcomer Laura Evancich is on display in the Engineering and Life Science building through April 13. Laura is also the graphic designer in the department of marketing and communications.

Originally from Boston, Mass., Laura relocated to Vancouver in hopes of combining a love of the outdoors with photography.

“When I was a kid, I wanted to be a park ranger. I have always loved the outdoors and decided I wanted to live and work in the woods. Unfortunately I wasn’t the best science student, so I switched gears and chose graphic design,” said Laura. “I decided to somehow find a way to combine my love of the outdoors with a career. If I couldn’t do it as my job, I would live in a place where I could work, play outdoors on the weekends and find a happy balance.”

Laura graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2004 with a bachelor of arts in English literature and fine arts photography. She found what makes her the happiest is when she can combine any two passions. In her professional life, that’s photography and graphic design. In her personal life, it’s photography and fly fishing.

“I feel I have done a good job as a photographer if you can imagine yourself in the scene I’ve created and it makes you take pause. If you can feel the dry heat of a dusty bike trail in the desert, hear the rocks raking against the sand heading back to the ocean, or wish you had grabbed your fly rod and raincoat before heading into the rainforest, then I’ve done a better job,” said Laura.
